Episode 6: The Descent

The Descent is an exploration of autumn, of what happens when the energy of the year begins to turn inwards and return to the earth, and of the things we might encounter when we follow nature’s cues and pay attention to what lies beneath the surface of our lives.

The descent into the dark is not always comfortable.  We live in a culture that favours the light and the bright, the visible and the known, and so this can feel like unfamiliar territory. Yet, as I explore in this episode, the things that are buried or hidden often hold the most energy and influence in our lives.

In this episode, we follow nature’s cues into the alchemical process of autumn – a season of falling away, decomposition, and transformation, where what appears to be an ending is also part of the process of creating something new.

We also explore how we might consciously align ourselves with the season through our environment, movement practices, and the questions we might ask ourselves as we create a little more space to slow down, turn inward, and listen.

With thanks

The closing poem I read in this episode is The Well of Grief, by David Whyte, from Where Many Rivers Meet.
