Given that for the past 3 weeks I have been having a smoothie every day for breakfast, I need a bit of variety and so it's a good job that there are endless options when it comes to making smoothies. This is my latest creation.
At the time of writing we are experiencing a mini heatwave which is affecting my energy levels and so, I turned to Maca, a superfood with energy boosting properties.
Maca is also high in antioxidants, iron, B vitamins and copper and studies are ongoing into it positive effects on hormonal health particularly in relation to pre and post menopausal women. It is also known as an adaptogen which help our bodies 'adapt' to stress.
Maca has a slight malty taste to it and pairs perfectly with almond butter and a hint of cinnamon.
I hope you enjoy this smoothie.
Apple & Maca, Almond Butter Smoothie
Makes 1
Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
200 - 250ml almond milk*
1 apple cored and quartered (peeled too if not organic)
1 date chopped
2 tablespoons oats
2 tablespoon hemp seeds
1 heaped tablespoon of almond butter
1 teaspoon maca
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Ice cubes* (optional)
Method
1. Add all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until smooth
2. Pour into a glass and enjoy
* I prefer my smoothies quite thick and not ice cold but you can add in more liquid if you like. Also please note, that adding ice cubes to blend in with the smoothie will make it thicker and therefore, you will need to add more liquid.
